Last night Charlie and I went to see one of the absolute best Red Sox games we have attended. It was full of suspense as I learned in the office there was a rumor that Mirabelli was coming back! What an incredible stroke of luck, Wakefield without Mirabelli is like an Italian Sausage without the pepper and onions!
We arrived at the ballpark in time to walk by the area where the ball players arrive, no Mirabelli.
We watched as Jason Varitek warmed up with Wakefield. OK, it looks like Jason is catching. We even watched as they both walked back to the dugout. Lets hope Jason can handle that knuckleball.
And then the National Anthem....
And then the lineup, and there it was, Mirabelli catching! The crowd went wild!
And then Johnny Damon showed up to bat. Yeah, the same one who swore he would never work for the Yankees. He waved, the crowd waved back, he took off his cap, yes, there were good times in the past, thank you.... and then he struck out, and the taunting started. What would he expect, he was a damned Yankee, for the next four years, or the end of his career, whichever came first. The game went well, we got a leadoff run, then it was tied. And the taunting of Johhny continued. Hell has it's price, for Damon it is 2.5 milion a year for his soul....seems pretty cheap when youy are already making 10 million...
Big Papi blasted one in the eighth, and that was the ball game. Timlin and Pablebon shut them down, and soon we heard the beloved tune Dirty Water, another win over the evil empire!
